Undeniable Truth Number 4

Posted by undergroundchurch on September 20, 2009

Everybody has faith.

This is a huge subject, but I want to narrow the field to one question, “What’s your system of faith.”

Everybody has it, and God is always a part of it. Let me list out the two primary systems of faith.

  • Faith in God – this is a person who places trust in God for their present life and eternal destination.
  • Faith in Self- this is a person who believes that the highest order of life, humans, are in control of their destiny.

Even those that call themselves “religious” can easily fit in the second faith-class.  The tendency with religious people is that they shape religion to fit their beliefs.  Instead of God changing them, they change God, or at least they change their understanding of God.

The Hebrew faith was the first truly monotheistic faith.  They believed, and rightly so, that there is only one God. He was not man made, man designed, or man tameable. He was God first, and we were not.

Faith in God is proven when God changes the individual.  I can believe one thing in my heart, but if God doesn’t fit my belief, I have two choices – reject who God is or change my belief.

Faith in man is furthered hampered by so called “scientific discovery”.  I work with many brilliant people with degrees in fields of science that make them almost intimidating.  I have found that this can be both a blessing and a curse for them.

On the one hand, they understand the world in a more black and white sense than most of us.  They understand why water in its solid state floats on its liquid state.  They know how to analyze a material and tell you what its made of.  And sometimes in this rational understanding of the universe, they can’t see the larger force of a creating God behind it all.  Somehow, it is easier to put our existence in the hands of chance and fate than to believe that there is a God that exists outside the time/space continuum, that operates outside our universal laws and yet wants to involve himself in our daily life.

The point is that we all have a faith system, but no matter what that system is, there is only one truth.  It really doesn’t matter what we think we believe, all that matters is the truth.  Truth is not what we make it; truth exists beyond our reality.  Truth is eternal, unwavering and unchanging.

Don’t rely so much on your own understanding.  Seek truth, and when you find Him, the truth will set you free.

    Undeniable Truth Number 3

Posted by undergroundchurch on September 20, 2009

    God Loves You.

Three simple words, yet they embody every bit of hope, peace and joy any human can possibly imagine. I look at these words and think three things.

    1. God loves despite my background, condition or situation.
    2. God loves us first. We can’t claim that distinction.
    3. Why would God love us?

Perhaps the greatest mystery in the universe is not its origin (that one is solved); it is why God would willingly create people that he knew ahead of time would reject him?  Why didn’t He just create us to love Him?  Wouldn’t that make the whole  snake-in-the-garden-tempting-Adam-and-Eve thing a futile effort?

I have said this many times before, but it bears repeating until somebody hears it.

Love is not real love unless the one loving offers the option not to love.

God proved His love first by giving us a choice.  Yes, He knew we would choose wrong, but that didn’t make Him grieve less for us when we failed to love Him in return.  Yes, He knew we would fail to return His love, but that didn’t stop Him from making a plan to rescue us before we even failed. (cf. 2 Timothy 1:9 and Revelation 13:8)

God then proved that love once again that while we were wretched, vile, disgusting sinners, Jesus Christ took our place in death, that if anyone should receive that gift from God, they would be saved from eternal death and would be able to show their love to God.  (John 3:16; Romans 5:8)

God’s love is undeniable.  So if you are still denying His love in your life… Stop it! Receive it! aAnd learn what real love is all about.

      Undeniable Truth Number 3

Posted by undergroundchurch on August 2, 2009

      God Loves you!

I know that you’ve probably heard that many times, but if it doesn’t resonate inside your being, then you probably don’t quite grasp the power of that love.

To best understand this, you need to know what God’s love is and is not.

      God’s love is…

      1. Not determined upon your merit. You can’t earn His love.
      2. Irrevocable. You can’t make Him stop loving you, you can grieve God, but not make Him stop loving.
      3. Unfazed by your current circumstance.  He deals with your future and can forgive your past. Your situation is reconcilable.
      4. Life altering.  Think about this, the creator of the universe (yes the universe was created) loves insignificant you.  That is both humbling and empowering.

      God’s love is not…

      1. Fluctuating.  He doesn’t love you less or more today than yesterday.
      2. Bought, bribed or bartered. You can’t work for him to make him love you more. You can’t make Him love you more because you go to church and never cuss, and you certainly can’t bribe him, “I’ll love you if you do this for me.”
      3. Human love.  God’s love is not even on the same plane as human love.  “While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Human love would not voluntarily give up its life for a bunch of reprobates that have not love in return.  God showed perfect love when we hated him most.
      4. To be taken lightly.  He loves and calls us children, but he also is a terrifying God that we must come before with fear and trembling.  Yet, we can come boldly before him, but only in holiness and with joy. There is no more perfect balance in the universe than that which is found in God.

God only wants one thing – your undying love in return.  I have heard many people say, “If God is so loving, why is there evil in the world?”  The answer is actually quite simple – we invited it.

The interesting thing about love is that you can’t truly love unless you have the option not to love.  Love is a choice, not a feeling or manipulation.  God gave us a choice through Adam to love Him first, and Adam refused, opting for death. We have that same choice to love God today, yet so many of us choose to ignore our option to love God in return, and instead choose to live only for this life.

God’s love is ever reaching, never ending and unrelenting, and the only way to truly experience the benefits is to surrender our pride and allow Him to release the power of that Love in our lives.

      Undeniable Truth Number 2

Posted by undergroundchurch on July 27, 2009

Undeniable Truth Number 2: Mankind is inherently evil.

I know that sounds very strong, but it is a proven truth throughout history and is the basis for our need for a savior. Every society has shown that it is capable of unspeakable evil. It can be rationalized, justified and ignored, but it cannot be denied.

I know that thought also flies in the face of what you hear today. So many people are out there teaching and preaching the opposite, that mankind is basically good, but the problem with that approach is that when you believe you are basically good, you don’t completely grasp your need for a savior.

First, let’s define a couple things.

      Good and Evil.

Here is the scoop on evil, “There is no such thing as evil, only an absence of good”. Let me ask you two other questions to illustrate, “Is there such a thing as ‘cold’ or ‘darkness'”? Again, the answer is no.  Cold is the absence of heat and that starts at 0 degrees Kelvin. Likewise, darkness is only the absence of light.  Dark always loses to light and cold always loses to heat.

In the same way, evil only exists when good is gone.  Adam and Eve started good, but opted to relegate the good for selfish gain.  In doing so, they brought evil into our lives.  Ever since, we have all been bent to selfish gain.

Everything we do from birth is about us.  We want our bottle, so we cry. We want mommy’s attention, so we throw tantrums, and as we grow older, we maintain that position of selfishness by doing things to please self.  That root is pride which is the cause of evil in our lives.

      Self-Centeredness is God Ordained

Here is the interesting part, God made us to be self-centered beings.  It is a design characteristic that allows us to produce one thing – love.  Love only exists when we have the choice not to love.  Adam and Eve made that choice for us, and we repeat it every day of our lives.  Sometimes we choose to love God, and other times, not so much.

The most important thing we do for God in our lives is obey.  We demonstrate our love to God this one way – by putting aside our selfish nature (pride) and “obeying” God.  We cannot obey God and please our selfish nature at the same time.  However, when we do obey God, we not only please him, but satisfy our spirit.

Loving God is all about sacrifice.  Sacrifice is all about setting aside the self-centered will and opting for the will of God.  It is the hardest thing we do.  We think God is pleased with our worship, prayers, and sacrifice alone, but all of that is meaningless if we aren’t willing to lay aside our pride and obey God. (1 Samuel 15:22)

He wants it all.  We must die to self and live for Christ.  If we are unwilling to do this, then we are living in disobedience and proving once again that our hearts are bent toward evil.  It is a daily battle, and one that is attainable if we live our lives by the power of the Holy Spirit.  He gives the essential strength to do right, avoid wrong and transform our lives.

God says, “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?”  (Jeremiah 17:9)  God doesn’t fix wicked hearts, he replaces them. (Ezekiel 36:26) It is the only cure for the wicked hearts of mankind.

      Undeniable Truth Number 1

Posted by undergroundchurch on July 19, 2009

OK; there are loads of undeniable truths found in the Bible, but I want to hit on what I believe is the top ten keys.  These are the black and white truths of Scripture that are very plain.

The best part about truth is that is doesn’t change whether or not we choose to believe it. You can deny the existence of gravity, but if you step off a cliff, you will discover that your belief system didn’t line up with the undeniable truth.

I do want to gear these toward believers even though they still apply to those that don’t believe in Jesus as the only way and savior of the world.

Number 1 – Forgiveness is not an Option

I know that we think we may have rights, but the fact is that God doesn’t give us any rights when it comes to forgiving others. You must forgive!

In fact, the Bible is plain about it, if you don’t forgive others, God will not forgive you  (Matthew 6:5-15). In fact, the post discussion on the Lord’s prayer, which has this concept at its core, also focuses on fogiving.

I was in Sunday class today, and we were talking about the reasons why we should forgive.  I listened to Stormie Omartian speak why we should forgive.  They were all good reasons, but reasons that can only be discovered once you obey Jesus and forgive.

God expects obedience first and faith second.  You don’t always understand why God demands certain things from us.  We think that because we were wronged by an individual that we have the right to retaliate with unforgiveness.  Unfortunately, you don’t see the reason to forgive until you actually forgive.  Your unforgiveness blinds you to the peace you can have with a life full of love and not bitterness.

The only person that hurts when you are filled with unforgiveness is you. It is the number one undeniable truth and one that can affect your eternity.
