Top ten Scriptures for me. Number 9.

Philippians 2:5-11

New International Version (NIV)

5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:

6 Who, being in very nature[a] God,
did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;
7 rather, he made himself nothing
by taking the very nature[b] of a servant,
being made in human likeness.
8 And being found in appearance as a man,
he humbled himself
by becoming obedient to death—
even death on a cross!

9 Therefore God exalted him to the highest place
and gave him the name that is above every name,
10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11 and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.

I like this one because it’s a song that has more good doctrine in it than anything you’ve ever seen.  Six short verses that gives you loads of really good insight into the plan of God.

  1. Jesus came as a suffering servant and walks out a conquering king.
  2. Jesus is Fully God.
  3. Jesus is Fully man.
  4. Jesus came humble and obedient to the calling of his Father
  5. Jesus didn’t just die a human death, he died an inhumane death.
  6. Jesus did not come to glorify himself, but his Father.
  7. It is the Father that then glorifies Jesus
  8. Jesus’ name is the most powerful authority in the universe
  9. Everyone will one day have to say, “Jesus, you are Lord of all” (whether they believe in him now or not)
  10. God always gets the glory!
