Day 37: Transformation through Spiritual Electrolysis

Posted by undergroundchurch on February 16, 2011

In 1807, Humphry Davy finds that electricity transforms chemicals. He uses an electric pile (an early battery) to separate salts by a process now known as electrolysis. With many batteries he is able to separate elemental potassium and sodium in calcium, strontium, barium and magnesium.

Egyptian Battery used in electrolysis circa 3,000 B.C.

Once again though, modern science is a little slow to the table.  In 3,000 B.C., Egyptians were building batteries and using electrolysis to electroplate gold onto artifacts, but that’s not my point.

Using a free ion medium, a person can use electrolysis to put chrome on a bumper and then bolt that bumper to a 64 VW bug. This technique separates chemicals and then adheres them to a negatively charged item.  Essentially, you transform the look of a material like “steel” into a beautiful chrome or gold plated jewel through the power of electricity.

It is interesting to note that one of the words for “Power” in the Greek is “energēs”, which means “in working” and is the root for our word, “energy”. It’s the word used by the Hebrews writer:

For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart – Hebrews 4:12

The Word of God works much like spiritual electrolysis. It takes your ugliness and passes on the beauty of Christ into your life.  If enough Word of God becomes alive in you, you begin a transformation process and take on the image of Christ.

The electricity is the word, but the medium in which it works is through the power of the Holy Spirit. This powerful combination can take your dull, dirty ugly bumper and transform it into a jewel that proudly adorns the crown of the Lord.
