Preparing the Church for the future

The Christian Pawn

Posted by undergroundchurch on September 6, 2009

Actually, I meant this title literally.

I was dreaming last night again, and I feel the Lord gave me this little illustration.  Hope it speaks to you.

The Christian life is like the life of a pawn. Yes, a pawn like the one on your standard chess board.

  1. The pawn is the smallest on the table – (He that is least in the kingdom of God…Luke 9:48)
  2. The pawn is the most populous (The church… Acts 2)
  3. The pawn can only move forward (He who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is not fit for the kingdom of God… Luke 9:62)
  4. The pawn is a dead duck when he can’t move forward (Because you were neither hot nor cold, but lukewarm, I spat you out of my mouth… Revelation 3:15,16 )
  5. The pawn cannot take the enemy head on, but must attack at an angle (This represents prayer – you can’t do it in your own strength)
  6. The pawn works best when defended by another pawn (where one can put a thousand to flight, two can put 10,000 to flight… Psalm 91:7)
  7. The pawn’s one goal is to make it to the other side alive (I have run my race; I have finished my course… 2 Timothy 4:7)
  8. The path a pawn can travel is narrow (For wide is the path that leads to destruction, but narrow is the path that leads to life… Matthew 7:13,14)
  9. Once the pawn makes it to the other side, he changes his robes of humanity for robes of royalty (Revelation 7:9)
  10. It was a dead pawn that made it to the other side who became the most powerful force on the board (Jesus died, was buried and rose again, that at his name, every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord of ALL! (Philippians 2)
